The 2024 harvest in Paso Robles has come to a close, and what a season it’s been! This year brought its own set of unique conditions—warm days, heat spikes that didn’t want to end, not so cool nights, and a lot of rainfall in the winter, but not much afterwards. But Mother Nature created a dynamic growing environment. As grapes came in from the vineyards, it was clear that the 2024 vintage would showcase both intensity and balance, hallmarks of Paso Robles terroir. We are excited by the quality of the fruit, which promises wines with depth, vibrant acidity, and a sense of place. It is going to be difficult to wait two years to see the fruits of our labor. But thankfully, the whites and rosé will be bottled and released by April.
We were up early and at the vineyard before the sun even peeked over the vines. Harvest mornings are magical—typically there’s a crispness in the air, however this morning it was unusually warm as we were still in the middle of what felt like a never ending heat spike. With just a bit of mist in the air, the smell of dewy grapes, our team of pickers moved with expertly, all while the sky shifted from night to dawn. The warmth of the sun is a negative during harvest. We want to bring in the grapes at their coolest and freshest, preserving all those delicate flavors and aromas. As the last bins of grapes were brought in and the vineyard looked bare after a season of growth, we couldn’t help but reflect on the journey this season has been. Harvest is the soul of winemaking—a whirlwind of long days and the thrill of capturing each grape at its peak. Now, our focus shifts from vineyard to the cellar, where the 2024 vintage begins its transformation from fruit to wine. We’re excited to see how these wines will evolve in the coming months, each bottle telling the story of this memorable harvest.
